What it took

It took a nation of millions to hold us back
took a million plus lives for me to hold my inner fears back
side-tracked hi-jacked from home with no contract no way to get back
it took a revolutionary change across a slow moving time line
but somehow we were jammed between forward and rewind
Damn! were sittin ducks -- were stuck
physically psychologically f#*ked!

it took inventions for the world to envision on a television
a youngsters blood spewing
as my parents were viewing
vintage film footage of Ebony ladies & Black guys
earning black eyes
under so called friendly skies
fighting the splashes of hi-pressure as water flies
head trauma swelling that brothas skull twice the size
of the white hood that the devil wore as a disguise
to minimize the chances of keepin his eyes on the prize...

Truly one of the most phenomenal artists to
  come out of the culture of New Orleans,

Charlie V is both poet and entertainer, a freedom
writer, visual artists and emcee extrodinaire. His gifts
are boundless and those of us who have had the
pleasure to witness his talent will never be the same
reminding us all why we write...
